It is classified as a class of drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). Tamoxifen was first marketed as anabolic steroids in 1967. Tamoxifen is an important tool in the fight against breast cancer. It works by blocking the effects of estrogen on the breast cancer cell. Tamoxifen is sold under the brand name Nolvadex in the United States and Australia. Tamoxifen is only available by prescription only and is not considered a medical treatment.
Nolvadex is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient tamoxifen, which is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) and is used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Tamoxifen is also sometimes used to treat breast cancer in women with a family history of breast cancer.
